13:00:16 From mariana : Hi ! 13:00:17 From Chris S. : HHi Susan 13:00:19 From Geesey : Howdy 13:00:21 From Cheryl : Hello from Iowa 13:00:27 From Gabrielle : hi :) 13:01:12 From Geesey : Well, right now I'm munching on nachos and salsa 13:01:19 From Chris S. : Veal Scalopini 13:01:42 From mariana : Paella 13:04:42 From Macollvie J. Neel : Published my first post on Medium yesterday, after months and months of delaying 13:04:51 From Cheryl : W: Home page changed. Not a very productive time. 13:04:58 From Chris S. : W: Slow, but positive, progress on my Positioning content. 13:05:12 From mariana : W I published my first article after returning from maternity leave. Very happy 13:05:18 From Geesey : Finally worked on new website via Wix, looks much better than my own earlier version 13:05:23 From Gabrielle : W: Found/joined a local group for creative entrepreneurs on LinkedIn :) 13:06:13 From Laird Raymond : W: To help with my imposter syndrome, I created email and blog post samples. 13:08:04 From Gabrielle : I: prospecting 13:08:14 From Geesey : I: Session 5, about to start some warm emailing this month 13:08:27 From Laird Raymond : I: Building lists and prospecting 13:08:40 From mariana : Session 4, working on my starter list 13:08:54 From Macollvie J. Neel : I: reworking site content to submit for review (session 2) 13:09:21 From Cheryl : I: Still on 5; updating the rest of my website pages 13:09:25 From Chris S. : I: Compiling an action list of prioritized tasks. 13:11:27 From Gabrielle : Q: What do you think about accepting connection requests on LinkedIn from people you don’t know? (With no messages.) 13:12:52 From Macollvie J. Neel : Q: Somewhere in your materials, it said clients don’t want to see a client who does B2B and B2C writing. Why is that? What data/info do you have on this? Thanks! 13:16:18 From Gabrielle : Ok, I think the same way. It’s come up for me now though because I’ve got some really old requests that I never accepted, and in this stage of prospecting I wondered if maybe I should rethink connecting. None of them look anymore compelling now than they did them though. 13:16:22 From Chris S. : Q: I live in California. Regarding Ed's podcast Episode #213 (California’s Disastrous AB5 Law.) How concerned should I be, and what should I do to augment my prospecting copy and strategy? 13:17:24 From Geesey : Q: My big issue is starting to prospect while avoiding crossing folks with my current job. Like on LinkedIn, lots of people are connected there. I want to find some part-time work to start and gradually build to move away from my current job. That's a fine line to walk... 13:19:52 From mariana : Q: a couple of years ago, when I started my freelance business I already taped my connections and send them emails. Now my connections increased. Does it make sense to reconnect with the ones I already email then? Maybe mention that I am back after maternity leave? Thanks! 13:21:35 From Chris S. : NP. Ed addresses this in the podcast. I'll refine my question and post on the Facebook group. 13:24:36 From Geesey : Q: No direct competition, just the idea that "Scott seems to be looking elsewhere" and a boss might not like that. 13:33:46 From Cheryl : The elephant in the room. Any tips for maintaining motivation and focus with the extraordinary events taking place all over our country? I came up in the sixties. It is hard not to despair with "deja vu all over again". (Besides not obsessively checking Facebook and CNN.) Do we need to modify our message? 13:41:25 From Gabrielle : Q: Do you have suggestions or strategies to reach out to bigger corporations when you don’t have any corporate experience? I’ve heard Ed talk about the pains working with small businesses and I already feel like I’m coming up against that kind of resistance - no budget, have to work rly hard to sell the value of the content - and I’m thinking of testing the waters with bigger organisations. Not giving up altogether, but maybe pushing myself to try what I previously thought of as too scary for me right now/with my experience. My positioning work doesn’t really point me in any one direction - no previous career as I’ve kind of always freelanced with writing and other jobs. Hearing about people with previous careers leveraging that success makes me wonder how a more generic background can be compelling when prospecting. 13:41:26 From Cheryl : Good advice. Thank you. 13:48:12 From Gabrielle : Yes that’s helpful thanks! 13:49:42 From Gabrielle : Yes I focused on agencies today, and I’m excited about potentially being able to work on big or high visibility projects. 13:51:01 From Macollvie J. Neel : What’s the name of that agency again? Can you type it in? 13:51:13 From Ed Gandia : Skyword 13:51:31 From Macollvie J. Neel : Thanks! 13:52:17 From Laird Raymond : I have the opposite problem to Gabrielle. I have experience working in corporate, but 30 years as a freelancer in tech support (technician) and print artwork for the publishing industry. However I have no writing experience. So I am trying to market myself helping small to mid sized companies and understanding their needs based on my working experience. But not leading with any writing experience. 13:53:47 From Geesey : V: LinkedIn advice, a little wary there. I also get connections with people out of nowhere, wondering if I should connect. 13:57:19 From Gabrielle : V: Goldilocks approach to prospecting! Reaching out to a small number of mid-size and large businesses makes the idea of prospecting to them seem doable. I also like the idea of a mixed approach. The LinkedIn advice was helpful too. 13:57:39 From Laird Raymond : V: “Having any skill in writing, is better than 90%” And I built my website using what I leaned in this program. This helped a lot with confidence. 13:57:42 From Gabrielle : LOL marriage proposal! 13:57:50 From Chris S. : V: Susan, most valuable for me is your reminder to strive for GOOD, NOT PERFECT. 13:59:26 From mariana : V: pivoting. Have something to start with. 14:02:42 From Gabrielle : A: Keep prospecting, and fold in the advice I got today. 14:03:35 From Cheryl : A: Keep on keepin' on. 14:03:37 From Gabrielle : Congratulations on creating your course Susan! 14:04:17 From Laird Raymond : A: practice writing samples, and continue to build lists for prospecting. 14:04:44 From Chris S. : A: I will complete my positioning copy this week. 14:04:55 From Chris S. : Q: Do you or Ed have a list of recommended proof-readers/copy reviewers for hire? 14:04:59 From mariana : A: sending my page for review! 14:05:53 From Chris S. : Cool. #Resources. I did not know about it! 14:06:10 From Gabrielle : Ed mentions a proofreading company in the course material 14:06:31 From Gabrielle : I can’t remember the name but it’s in one of the modules. sorry I can’t be more specific! 14:06:40 From mariana : I think he mentioned this one: https://www.proofreadnow.com/ 14:07:04 From Geesey : A; Research some education-related companies for contact info but also who to send warm emails to. My own network has no real connections. 14:07:11 From Chris S. : Thank you Mariana! 14:07:30 From Laird Raymond : Thanks much Susan :) 14:07:50 From Gabrielle : Thank you Susan :) 14:07:51 From mariana : Thanks! 14:07:57 From Chris S. : Thank you!!
